At present, there are plans in the making to determine how to make the Sterling Hwy a safer road for driver’s and pedestrians by improving traffic flow in areas of high turning movements and reducing seasonal traffic back ups in the Cooper Landing area. There is also concern for the health of the Kenai River with the highway so close and the chance of contamination from truck accidents, etc. What can be done in the area to reduce the risk of water contamination, loss of wilderness, and loss of human life from traffic accidents?
The Dept Of Transportation is suggesting several options to the problem. They have come up with several suggested changes to the highway.
