| This unit will present the way a workshop on Teaching and Learning Through Inquiry (February 21, 2001) was structured. |
Background and Resources
BACKGROUND What is Inquiry? It's an activity in which the learner extracts meaning from experience. It is manifested in a variety of curricular and instructional approaches, which can be roughly grouped according to the aspects of the inquiry cycle they emphasize:
Ask: open school; problem-based learning Investigate: materials-based, resource-based learning; investigation-based, research-based learning Create: project-based learning Discuss: cooperative learning; writing process Reflect: constructivist learning; reader response; service learning
A slide show by Chip Bruce can give you background on Inquiry Teaching and Learning as it is dealt with in this workshop.
