Basic Course Description:
591 CIC/CIL (register for 591 CIL if taking through LEEP) Community Information Corps Practicum Credit: 2 hours

591 CIC/CIL provides supervised community informatics field experience of professional-level duties in an approved setting. If taking 591 CIC/CIL, students can not apply the 2 hours credit of another 591 Practicum toward their degree, nor will the 2 hours credit for 591 CIC/CIL apply toward their degree if they have already taken another 591 Practicum. Approved for S/U grading only.
Completion of 14 graduate hours of library and information science courses, or permission of instructor; submission of Practicum forms.

Community informatics is the field of study and practice devoted to understanding how information processes and technologies are used to help communities achieve their goals. Students may identify and propose their own 591 CIC/CIL practicum sites, or select opportunities from the GSLIS "Community Informatics Corps Practical Engagement Opportunities" listed at:

591 CIC/CIL students are encouraged to attend the weekly meetings of the Community Informatics Corps, which will be held on Fridays, 1:00-2:00 CST, beginning August 26th, 2005, at Prairienet, 510 E.
